POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Director and Registrar Assessor in efficient processing of potential new students in the Harrisonburg City Public Schools. Provides families with information and instruction regarding school enrollment services and helps to create a welcoming atmosphere for our families. Provides schools with access to information as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains clear communication with the Director of the Welcome Center, English as Second Language staff and schools about students/families/Welcome Center services.
- Responds to telephone, email, and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
- Maintains records of Welcome Center services via the Welcome Center calendar and a variety of spreadsheets to both ensure smooth and efficient services to families and accurate record of services provided.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality with respect to student and family information.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity, and individual differences of others.
- Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to ensure compliance with Welcome Center Policies and Protocols as developed to meet division, federal, state and local regulations and policies.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of technology including experience with using Microsoft Office, email and information system applications.
- Proficiency in written communication.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Personal qualities and characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the community.
- Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff and co-workers.
- Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
