SUMMARY:
Provide general editorial and administrative support to the Managing Editorial Department of a midsize, illustrated book publisher with an annual list of 200 titles, with a focus on metadata management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use the company’s product database to set up entries for individual titles, track book data (specifications, etc.) and schedules, and update information.
- Support the senior members of Managing Editorial department in working with the Editorial, Design, and Production departments to guidebooks through the preproduction process.
- Copyedit and proofread book interiors and jackets/covers.
- Manage paperback workflow for approximately 10 books a season.
- Manage reprints.
- Manage copyediting for the calendar program.
- Create barcodes.
- Liaison with the Library of Congress to request CIP data.
- General administrative duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong copyediting and proofreading skills
- Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
- Position requires accuracy, careful attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and follow through consistently.
- Must be highly organized, energetic, and able to juggle multiple priorities efficiently and calmly.
- Must be able to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work collaboratively and diplomatically across departments.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Experience working on illustrated books a plus.
- Familiarity with electronic markup/Acrobat Pro a plus
Hybrid schedule – Threes days per week in-office
