We are seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to join our team in the role of District Curriculum Director.
Position Overview
The Curriculum Director will oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of the district’s curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment programs. This is a critical leadership position in the district and will require a dynamic, visionary leader who is committed to improving educational outcomes for all students and supporting teachers and staff to achieve their full potential. This role is central to ensuring that the Hartford School District maintains its reputation for excellence and continued growth.
Primary Responsibilities
The Curriculum Director will be responsible for the following:
Curriculum Development & Implementation
Coordinate the development, implementation, and assessment of the district’s PK-12 curriculum to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment
Oversee curriculum auditing and the identification of gaps or areas needing improvement for continuous curricular refinement that is also aligned to our Vision of a Graduate and our Ends Policies
Facilitate the development and execution of the district’s school improvement plans with a focus on enhancing instructional effectiveness
Instructional Support & Training
Support school principals and instructional leaders in providing high-quality training and professional development for teaching and support staff, including overseeing the New Teacher Orientation program and Mentoring Program
Coordinate and facilitate instructional coaches to ensure ongoing professional growth and the integration of best practices across all grade levels
Lead the coordination of districtwide professional development programs to ensure alignment with district goals and current educational needs
Assessment Program Oversight
Facilitate and manage the district’s comprehensive assessment program, ensuring it aligns with local “Ends” policies, state and national assessments, and the district’s goals for student achievement
Effective use of data in decision-making, including the management and coordination of the district’s data programs (Forefront and EduClimber) and collaboration with the Data Administrator
Grant Management & Federal Programs
Develop and oversee the district’s annual federal grant program, ensuring all supplemental student services in reading, writing, and math are supported and appropriately allocated
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding grants, reporting, and programming
Data & Reporting
Supervise the preparation and timely submission of statistical data and financial reports to local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all reporting requirements
Analyze data trends to inform decision-making and improve educational practices and student outcomes
Collaborative Leadership
Work closely with the Superintendent, Principals, and the Director of Special Education to ensure alignment across the district’s educational and support services
Lead and coordinate districtwide committees and working groups focused on curriculum development, instructional practices, and school improvement
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
A Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field
A valid administrative certification or equivalent
At least 5 years of experience in educational leadership, with a proven track record in curriculum development and instructional supervision
In-depth knowledge of curriculum design, assessment practices, and educational programming, PK-12
Experience with federal and state grant programs, as well as specialized student services
Strong understanding of data management and analysis, including familiarity with data platforms such as Forefront and/or EduClimber
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of educators, administrators, and community stakeholders
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
