Position Summary
As a Building Materials / Project Sales Specialist at Hartville Hardware, you are the go-to resource for customers tackling building, hardware, and home improvement projects. Whether assisting a DIYer with product selection or helping a contractor plan their next job, you provide expert advice and personalized service at the sales counter. Your knowledge, problem-solving skills, and commitment to customer success make a difference in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Assistance:
- Greet customers warmly and provide personalized service to identify and fulfill their project needs.
- Answer questions about lumber, hardware and building materials, offering product recommendations and alternatives.
- Assist customers via the phone to fulfill their project needs.
- Sales and Quoting:
- Assist customers with project estimates, pricing, and order placement.
- Process sales transactions accurately using the store’s POS system.
- Follow up with customers to ensure project success and satisfaction.
- Project Support:
- Collaborate with customers to create material lists for home improvement or construction projects.
- Offer practical solutions for project challenges and ensure all necessary materials are available.
- Inventory and Product Knowledge:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of store products, promotions, and industry trends.
- Assist with restocking samples and literature, organizing displays, and ensuring the sales counter is clean and welcoming.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members, including delivery staff, yard team members, and purchasing team, to fulfill customer orders.
- Provide feedback to management on product demand and customer preferences.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in retail sales, customer service, or the building materials industry preferred.
- Familiarity with construction, reading blueprints, home improvement, or DIY projects is a plus.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to assisting customers.
- Ability to use POS systems and basic computer applications.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that may include indoor and outdoor tasks.
Availability Requirements
Must be available to work one evening until 7pm and most Saturdays.
- Store Hours are Monday-Friday 6am-7pm and Saturday 7am-5pm
