The Warehouse and Receiving Supervisor helps serve internal customers (fellow team members) by helping to keep the receiving and warehousing processes running efficiently. This individual is competent in leveraging technology, computer skills, and process management to create a lean and organized warehouse/receiving experience. This individual is a servant leader who leads by example - having a long-term, global, team based perspective of the operations of the store.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Oversees all receiving and warehousing for the retail hardware and lumberyard.
- Manages warehouse staff, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
- Maintains accurate inventory levels and controls shrinkage.
- Optimizes warehouse layout and processes for maximum efficiency.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborates with other departments (sales, purchasing, etc.) to ensure smooth workflow.
- Continuously seeks opportunities for improvement in warehouse operations.
Receiving:
- Supervises and coordinates the unloading of incoming shipments and assists with unloading shipments as needed.
- Verifies shipments against purchase orders and packing slips, noting any discrepancies.
- Inspects incoming merchandise for damage and reports any issues.
- Ensures proper documentation of received goods.
- Accurately enters received items into the inventory management system.
- Schedules deliveries and coordinates with vendors.
Warehousing:
- Manages warehouse space effectively, optimizing storage locations and organization.
- Oversees the put-away process, ensuring items are stored correctly and efficiently.
- Implements and maintains a system for locating and retrieving inventory.
- Manages inventory levels, including cycle counting and physical inventory counts.
- Monitors inventory for obsolescence or damage and takes appropriate action.
- Ensures the warehouse is clean, organized, and safe.
Staff Management:
- Hires, trains, and supervises warehouse staff.
- Conducts performance reviews and provides feedback to team members.
- Creates and maintains work schedules.
- Addresses team member issues and resolves conflicts.
- Promotes a positive and productive work environment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforces all safety regulations and company policies within the warehouse.
- Conducts regular safety inspections and addresses any hazards.
- Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Complies with all relevant OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
Other Duties:
- Operates warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.) as needed.
- Maintains warehouse equipment in good working order.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
- Assists in the order pickup area as needed.
Skills and Abilities:
- Previous Warehouse Management Experience
- Education: High School graduate or GED required; some college-level coursework preferred.
- Computer skills - Working knowledge of computers required.
- Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate effectively using the English language. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Physical requirements: Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day. Ability to carry up to 80 pounds occasionally, less than 80 pounds frequently. Walking, sitting, and climbing ladders is often required. Must be willing to be forklift certified.
