What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Coordinator position at Harvard University Event Horizon Telescope?
Job Summary
The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) team at the Center for Astrophysics (Harvard University and Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory) is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to help with Outreach and external communications. Primary tasks will include working with the CfA EHT team to distribute press releases and project updates via social media and online channels and maintaining the outreach components of the team’s website. The individual may also assist with strategic communications planning and media relations, as well as edit and adapt team-created content for different distribution platforms. The ideal candidate is someone with a background in science or science writing who enjoys translating scientific concepts into outreach-appropriate language. The position will report to the Principal Investigator at the CfA and will interact with international EHT colleagues with similar responsibility at other institutions. Our team is a dynamic group including scientists, engineers, students and postdocs with a mission of carrying out visionary science and communicating discoveries to the curious public. The EHT produced the first image of a supermassive black hole in 2019, and it is estimated that over 1 billion people saw the first image when it was released.
This will be a part-time position (<14 hrs/week) and can be either in-person or remote. The position does not have a fixed end-date but depends on continued funding of the EHT program, which is secure through Sept 2025 and likely beyond.
