Job Summary
The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University seeks an experienced and dynamic Events Manager to lead and implement our broad range of events programming. They will be excited to bring our distributed community together using virtual tools and techniques and eager to apply deft interpersonal skills for in-person functions. They will have an interest in key issues in the Internet & society space and an ability to support conversation about these topics and over time they will develop a keen eye for current BKC themes and opportunities. Position Description
As an Events Manager, you will:
- Manage all stages of events, from inception to implementation, partnering with project and program teams to create dynamic and participatory physical and virtual events.
- Partner with event proposers to ensure their event is most successful, given the resources available, the goals of the particular event, and the current topical themes of the Center.
- Collaborate with the BKC staff on logistics to enable smooth, efficient planning and implementation processes.
- Coordinate the Events Strategy Team, tracking events across the Center for substantive connections, maintaining proactive and responsive process and communication, documenting and following up on decisions, guiding debriefs and reflections afterwards.
- Work closely with the Communications team to ensure that our programs are shared within our extended community, audiences outside our community and the public at large. Contribute to consistent and effective communications about all events hosted by the Center including email campaigns, social media, posters, and internal communications.
- Conduct outreach to include other centers, departments and student groups on campus and organizations outside of the university with particular attention to the diversity of voices and opportunities for collaboration.
- Communicate with a range of scholars about events and programs, encouraging and building engagement that leads to a strong community.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 3 or more years of experience, including organization and execution of events.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for people who have:
- Previous management experience and excellent people and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills including demonstrated ability to write clear and inviting internal and external emails, event planning documents, facilitation guides and similar.
- Experience with facilitating community events and programs with online tools such as videoconference, online learning platforms, etc.
- Comfortable with presentation and communication technologies and able to effectively instruct others.
- The ability to be proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and remain calm under pressure while effectively addressing competing priorities.
- The desire to be a leader among staff, community and beyond, helping our passionate and supportive team and community to improve how we deliver events and programming including virtual programming.
- Knowledge of or prior work on Internet, technology policy, or social media related issues is desirable.
Additional Information
This is a term appointment currently expected to extend through June 30, 2025, with potential for renewal subject to funding and departmental need.

Because of evolving business needs throughout the year, flexibility in scheduling is required. This may include overtime, weekend and holiday coverage in support of events. Must be available occasionally to respond to events-related emergency calls during non-work hours.
