What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Programs position at Harvest Hands CDC?
Position Overview: Oversee all programs, including the implementation of the afterschool and summer programs, Empower Sports, and Student & Family counseling programs. Create and oversee programs that ensure that healthy living, education, leadership development, and spiritual formation are an integral part of our curriculum. Serve as a trusted member of the leadership team to assist the growth and development of the organization. Ensure that the team members under your supervision understand their responsibilities and duties and effectively execute their work. This is a full-time, salaried position.
Leadership Team Responsibilities
- Manage a team to reach their annual metrics and quarterly goals.
- Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training of additional team members, and assist with the hiring and onboarding of other high-level team members as a part of the leadership team.
- Work alongside the leadership team to develop the budget and create metrics for the programs team annually.
- Ensure the creation of a positive staff culture and assist in providing professional development opportunities for staff support and growth.
- Produce regular leadership reports with progress towards goals, relevant data with commentary, and strategic next steps.
- Attend regular Leadership Team meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of all staff and students, including professional development opportunities, human resource responsibilities, process and procedure development and implementation, strategic planning, etc.
Program Responsibilities
- Develop a cohesive structure and curriculum for all after-school and summer programs at Harvest Hands.
- Assist the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer with new site exploration and expansion of Harvest Hands’ out-of-school programming, including, but not limited to, afterschool programs, summer programs, high school programming, Empower Sports, counseling, etc.
- Facilitate regular site visits to support staff, engage students and families, and evaluate what is going well along with opportunities for improvement in all programs. Support site leads in ensuring their programs are adequately staffed by utilizing HH’s coverage policy and procedure framework.
- Oversee the hiring and training of interns, federal workforce students, and program staff.
- Ensure that after-school program staff and interns are receiving the training they need to effectively carry out their work and lead an excellent program.
- Ensure the Senior Manager of Community Engagement has the resources they need to recruit, train, and retain program volunteers.
- Manage afterschool program staff to ensure the success and growth of the students and programs, creatively work towards solutions together with the afterschool program team to ensure that concerns and needs are being addressed on a regular basis.
- Work with the programs team to establish and grow weekend activities for youth and children in the community.
- Work with program leads to create, execute, and evaluate effective recruitment plans for program participants.
- Create and enforce effective behavior and classroom management policy using a restorative justice approach to encourage learning. Work with program managers to ensure that procedures are being implemented and have clear communication streams with parents/guardians that allow them the opportunity to work towards solutions collaboratively with the student and HH staff.
- Ensure that there are effective tools to measure the success and growth of the students and the programs. Intentionally communicate any information and data gathered with development staff, senior staff, and the CEO. It is essential to track students’ growth and progress in measurable ways in order to ensure our work is most effectively and holistically benefiting the youth and communities we are here for, additionally, this data supports funding to sustain our programmatic efforts that support our community long term.
- Through a Christ-centered approach, encourage daily spiritual growth in the lives of children and families.
- Create and maintain a good, working relationship within the school system to better meet the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of the children of Harvest Hands; including meeting with students’ teachers and administrators on a regular basis and serving as the liaison between Harvest Hands and the schools our students attend.
- Ensure facilities are clean, organized, and conducive to learning.
- Develop and maintain the library where books are learning tools used on a regular basis.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students’ parents or guardians.
- Participate in organization fundraising for programs and the organization as needed.
- Perform administrative duties as needed to help with the general functioning of Harvest Hands in an effort to carry out the mission of the organization.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following professional qualifications:
- A strong and clearly observable faith in God, and a strong passion and commitment to mission and outreach in an underserved community.
- An awareness and understanding of the principles of Christian Community Development and a commitment to the communities we serve.
- A Bachelor’s degree (required) and a Masters in Social Work (preferred).
- A minimum of five years in program administration or education.
- A minimum of two years managing direct reports or volunteers.
- Attention to detail and a high level of organization.
- Excellent communication and administrative skills.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Strong relational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in task management.
