About UsHarvey County Learning Center is a student-focused, trauma-informed program dedicated to creating pathways for teens and adults to achieve their high school diploma. We specialize in supporting individuals who have faced challenges in completing high school, partnering closely with local school districts to empower students and foster success.
Position Overview: We are seeking a collaborative and compassionate leader to direct the Harvey County Learning Center in Newton, Kansas. This growing program has established strong relationships with local districts, and we are looking for someone who can maintain and expand these connections while increasing student enrollment. The ideal candidate will excel in communication, demonstrate empathy, and adapt to the diverse needs of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all activities at the Harvey County Learning Center
- Drive local recruitment efforts to grow enrollment and reach more students.
- Facilitate student learning and provide direction and evaluation for staff.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and trauma-responsive learning environment.
- Oversee record-keeping systems, including managing the annual FTE audit
- Collaborate directly with students and families to develop individualized education plans that foster resilience and success.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Valid Kansas Educator License
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
- Excellent interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both conversation and writing.
- Ability to inspire others to carry out the vision
- Prior Instructional experience
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficient with computers, including Google Suite

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand the regulations and best practices for diploma completion programs
- Prior leadership experience

GENERAL DUTIES
STUDENT LEARNING and RECRUITMENT
- Establish and provide oversight for student transcript reviews
- Coordinate with student’s district/counselor as needed to develop student's individual student plan, ensuring that each student has an appropriate, individual, educational plan in place
- Model and direct instructional expectations for other staff
- Lead the recruitment efforts for Harvey County Learning Center
Coordinate with Marketing Team to carry out the following for recruitment:
- Create a strategic plan for marketing
- Ensure signage and other marketing materials are accurate and available,
- Marketing initiatives
- Social media plan for student recruitment
- Share stories of graduates and students
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
- Foster district, community, and student relationships, which include answering phone calls and emails from parents.
- Attend weekly site director meetings
- Communicate and collaborate with the Director of ESSDACK Learning Centers and other Learning Centers
STAFFING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the Director of ESSDACK Learning Centers to advertise and hire open positions.
- Assist in Onboarding new Learning Center Staff
- Supervise day-to-day activities in the assigned learning center and support and lead employees in the center
- Review and approve staff requests for time off and time cards
CLERICAL and FACILITIES
- Maintain and improve the student record-keeping system
- Learn the reporting and audit processes outlined by KSDE for the annual audit which determines funding for the center
- Maintain a safe, clean, and inviting learning environment including but not limited to, cleaning and safety procedures, communicate needed repairs for the center with the Director of ESSDACK Learning Centers, and after approval, Coordinate any approved repairs with local service providers
Working Conditions:
Moderate standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Note: Kpers covered position.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
