Position Summary:
Hastings Area School System is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatics
Director and Community Center Coordinator to oversee the operation and management of
the district’s aquatic programs and facilities. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing
and implementing aquatic programming, ensuring the safety of all participants, and maintaining
the facility to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
● Plan, develop, and supervise aquatic programs including swim lessons, competitive
swim teams, and community-based activities.
● Oversee daily operations of the aquatic center, including maintenance, scheduling, and
safety protocols.
● Recruit, hire, train, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatic staff.
● Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and industry best
practices.
● Manage the aquatic center budget, including purchasing, payroll, and resource
allocation.
● Collaborate with district staff, school swim programs, community partners, and external
organizations to enhance aquatic offerings.
● Maintain accurate records for staff certifications, program participation, and facility
maintenance.
● Develop and enforce policies and procedures to promote participant safety and program
quality.
● Facilitate ongoing training and professional development for aquatic staff.
● Serve as the primary point of contact for all aquatic-related inquiries and concerns.
● Oversee all aspects of the Community Center and scheduling.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, or a related field (or
equivalent experience).
● Certified Pool Operator credential or ability to attain certification
● Experience managing aquatic programs and facilities preferred.
● Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and
First Aid (Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred).
● Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
● Proven ability to manage staff, budgets, and multiple programs effectively.
● Knowledge of state and federal aquatic safety standards and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification or ability to
attain one.
● Experience working in a school or community-based aquatic environment.
● Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and engage community stakeholders.
