Job Description
A sonographer supervisor provides diagnostic observations and develop oral and/or /written reports for attending physicians. With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary action.
Sonography Supervisor
The Sonography Supervisor is responsible for staffing, daily operations, and quality assurance within the Ultrasound Department at a Level 1 Trauma Center. This role ensures compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in medical imaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations of the Ultrasound Department, including Breast and Diagnostic Ultrasound services.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., ACR, FDA, Joint Commission).
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization to maintain efficiency and patient satisfaction.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to sonographers, ensuring quality control and continuous professional development.
- Support budgeting, resource planning, and long-term department goals in collaboration with the Radiology Manager.
- Perform clinical ultrasound procedures, while overseeing training and instructional guidance for staff and students.
- Represent the department in hospital-wide committees and contribute to policy development.
Qualifications
Must-Haves:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiography or Sonography program.
- Active ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification.
- 5 years of progressive experience in sonography, including breast ultrasound.
- Experience with accreditation and compliance processes (ACR standards preferred).
Nice-To-Haves:
- Experience in a unionized healthcare setting.
- Project and budget planning experience.
- Previous experience as a lead or senior sonographer.
