What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Science position at Hathaway Brown School?
Hathaway Brown School is seeking a full-time Middle School Science Teacher for the 2025-26 academic year. We are looking for a dedicated and innovative educator with a passion for science and middle school education.
- Usual teaching load of four sections of Middle School science classes, emphasizing inquiry and exploration.
- Mentor approximately 10-12 middle school girls, offering academic counseling, community building, and family communication.
- Participate in supervisory duties, including chaperoning multi-day class trips and contributing to school events and assemblies.
- Lead Academy Choice classes and mentor students in the Science Research elective, promoting hands-on learning and scientific inquiry.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including science and math teachers, grade-level deans, and diversity liaisons, to enrich the middle school experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Science Education required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven expertise in applying Next Generation Science Standards, including inquiry-based learning and data-driven instruction.
- Strong technology skills, including experience with iPads, learning management systems, and digital tools.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and effective classroom practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students and families.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Energetic, innovative, and growth-oriented mindset.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with parents and/or employees of an organization.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
