SUMMARY.
The Chief Development Officer is responsible for leading, planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring all public and private development and fundraising activities critical to financially supporting the mission and overall operations for Haven for Hope (H4H). The Chief Development Officer also oversees the Communications Team and Volunteer Team and ensures coordination between the teams for maximum benefit to the organization. This includes: raising all private and public funds; orchestrating fundraising campaigns; acknowledging and thanking donors; managing donor relations to ensure overall fund raising goals are met; staying current on foundations and grant-funding sources; working with corporations on developing funding avenues and resources and then maintaining an on-going relationship; working with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure needed resources that enable fulfillment of H4H mission.
The Chief Development Officer leads the development team to ensure that fundraising targets are met through a variety of strategies including grant writing and reporting, individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, high impact events, and corporate partnerships. The development team works closely with the other H4H departments to translate H4H transformative impact to donors, prospects, and the community at large. This position will work closely with the entire Executive Team as well as the Board of Directors and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Lead, plan and execute the organization fund raising efforts to include the development of a comprehensive fundraising plan annually that includes individual and corporate giving campaigns, endowment funding, major donor program, planned giving campaign, annual capital funding and foundation giving. Manage well developed and executable development initiatives with documented timelines and benchmarks for accountability. Provides bi-weekly reports to the CEO on the fundraising plan progress and major development metrics.
- Manage the development, volunteer and communications teams.
- Create an annual plan to identify prospective donors for the organization and develop relationships to ensure annual fundraising goals are met.
- Oversee all aspects of donor relations for the organizations, to include foundations, public grantors and any other contributor to Haven for Hope. Oversight to ensure appropriate acknowledgement is sent (i.e. Thank you letters, hand-written notes, etc.) within 48 hours of the gift.
- Works with team to cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondences, preparing letters of acknowledgement, scheduling and attending in-person visits.
- Oversees donor management software to ensure all donor records are maintained and up-to-date in database.
- Host a number of regular and well-attended cultivation events.
- Represent Haven for Hope and participate in fundraising professional groups to ensure Haven for Hope is utilizing the most recent tools for optimizing our fundraising potential.
- Ensure compliance and follow-up with all grants or donations awarded.
- Ensure compliance with solicitation permit laws for fundraising activities.
- Must maintain the standards of confidentiality related to agency information, funders and other constituents.
- Lead the development department in a manner that reflects the commitment to Haven for Hope core values.
- Serves as the liaison to the Board Development Committee. Schedules meetings, prepares agenda and documents and provides follow up documents. Check in with committee members on assignments. Works with the committee to ensure board and advisory council annual gifts are made.
- Oversees all communications for the agency to ensure annual communication strategies and goals are met. Ensures the communications team leverages social media and online fundraising.
- Deliver presentations in support of the annual United Way campaign and to community service organizations.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION.
- Required Minimum Bachelor’s Degree.
- Prefer Master’s Degree.
EXPERINCE.
- Five years minimum in fundraising and development
- Successful and proven track record in fundraising of major gifts with individuals, corporations and foundations.
- Success in creating new and innovative fund-raising tactics and avenues appropriate for a national agency.
- Proven record of planning, leading and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers, to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting progress to executive level management.
KNOWLDEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES.
- Development background, including proven success in bringing in large dollar amounts from the public sector, foundations, donors, and corporate sponsors.
- Demonstrates initiative and actively seeks to strengthen current donor relationships and to identify and establish new ones.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, team building and management skills
- Highly skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising and for conveying complex ideas through brief, easily understood materials; fosters agency credibility when presenting messages and materials to external audiences.
- Demonstrates skills in establishing and maintaining financial procedures, budgeting and program development, project implementation and measurement, and fiscal planning.
- Demonstrates high integrity and fiduciary responsibility in managing resources.
- Organizes successful fundraising events.
- Strong public speaking ability.
- Web-based and social media fundraising
- Proficient in Microsoft office and donor software.
- Driver’s license and good driving record.
- Must be willing to live in San Antonio area.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Provides supervision and oversight of Development Team, Volunteer Team and Communications Teams.
