Description

SUMMARY

 

The Resources Center Navigator is responsible for connecting clients to Haven for Hope and Partner Agency resources and services as appropriate, to include assisting clients with locating, planning, and scheduling community resources and services.  The Navigator oversees the operations and administration of the Navigation Center.   This position requires a high degree of autonomy, self-navigation, creativity, collaborative and organizational skills, and the ability to adapt services for a person-centered approach.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Educates, informs, and connects clients with appropriate resources at Haven for Hope or external community agencies.
  • Oversees the operations of the Navigation Center to include maintaining schedules of classes/workshops, hours of operations as directed, supply of up-to-date resources, of all informational handouts/brochures, etc.
  • Collaborates with other campus service providers to assist clients as needed.
  • Aids with client questions, issues, obstacles, and concerns.
  • Ensures proper documentation of case notes and services are entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or other approved methods of record keeping.
  • Responsible for client verification letters for all applicable entities and providing notary services.
  • Facilitates workshops/classes in the Navigation Center on approved topics.
  • Acts as liaison between Haven for Hope and community organizations to help promote and facilitate peer groups on campus.
  • Participates in outreach and networking within the community to discover potential facilitators for classes, workshops, etc.
  • Responsible for soliciting, managing, and training volunteers or interns for the Navigation Center.
  • Takes part in department and company meetings as required and seeks other professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications


EDUCATION.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Peer Specialist credentials preferred or ability to speak on shared lived experience.

 

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Qualified candidates will have prior work experience providing administrative support; prior experience working in the legal field and/or working for nonprofits is preferred.
  • One year of direct practice with individuals and/or families experiencing challenges related to homelessness, poverty, trauma, substance use, mental health, physical health, and family relations. Direct practice experience to include interactions with community resources to meet the diverse needs of clients.

 

KNOWLDEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES.

  • Commitment to Haven for Hope's mission and guiding frameworks of service delivery.
  • Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and sensitivity to people with disabilities and underserved populations.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to represent Haven for Hope and support clients with histories of homelessness and trauma.
  • Excellent administrative ability, to include organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong computer skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to take initiative, which includes the ability to discern when to seek supervision and additional guidance.
  • Strong creative and critical thinking skills, to include the ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and matters.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

Preferred candidates will possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, a good driving record, reliable transportation, and proper insurance coverage on the automobile used for work. Monthly reimbursement for applicable and documented work-related expenditures will be provided. Travel within the city and its surrounding areas may be required.

This position will require the candidate to be able to regularly perform physical activity such as frequent standing, walking, and sitting, basic motor skills to access computer files for information or simple data entry, and the ability to operate a computer and relevant applications and programs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and this position may occasionally require tasks to be performed in non-climate-controlled environments.
