Overview
The Volunteer Program Manager plays a crucial role in enhancing the impact of our organization through effective volunteer management. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for community service, ensuring that our volunteers are well-supported and motivated to contribute to our mission.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains volunteer recruitment and retention programs.
- Coordinates on-boarding and training of new volunteers
- Develop seasoned volunteers into leaders who can train and mentor others
- Counsels and educates existing volunteers, recognizing that learning is a continuous process.
- Maintains accurate and complete records using a mix of volunteer management and general office software.
- Maintains prompt and courteous communication with volunteers, staff, and the community via telephone, email, social media, and in-person channels.
- Supervises and collaborates with the Behavior Specialist to maintain a safe and efficient animal handling, enrichment, and socialization program.
- Works with department managers to find areas in which volunteers can assist.
- Works closely with Adoptions and Development departments to coordinate volunteers for outreaches, fundraisers, and other events.
- Develops educational programs that may be delivered to community members both offsite and at the shelter, either personally or by volunteers, including scripts, slide decks, demonstrations, and handouts as needed.
- Acts as Director of Camp Love-a-Pet, the twice annual children’s summer camp. This includes planning and organizing field trips, guest speakers, classroom activities, training exercises, safety best practices, volunteer counselors, and enrollment.
- Works under the direction of the CEO and supervises the Behavior Specialist.
Requirements
Must pass a background check.
Workweek is Tuesday through Saturday, 8AM-5PM.
College degree or equivalent experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to instruct others in a clear and thorough way and appropriate to the individual.
Must exhibit patience and willingness to take the time needed to ensure safe animal handling.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience working with the public and customer service.
Two years of managerial or supervisory experience.
Experience as a volunteer, volunteer coordinator, or with animal handling is a plus.
