What are the responsibilities and job description for the ADNS/Staff Development position at Haverhill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors, and Charge Nurses (RN/LPN) to effectively accomplish their duties.
2. Acts as liaison between the Director of Nursing Services and Unit Managers/RN Supervisors/Charge Nurses (RN/LPN).
3. Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
4. Ensures that nursing services staffing needs and schedules are met.
5. Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
6. Assists in the recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
7. Responsible for ordering and receiving medications for the emergency drug box and oversees narcotic control and destruction.
8. In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, assume all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services.
9. Oversees disciplinary actions in conjunction with RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses (RN/LPN).
10. Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
11. Tracks rehospitalization rates and identifies areas for education.
12. Serves as the Wound Care Nurse and/or resource for wound care (facility-specific).
13. Conducts case reviews on hospital readmissions.
14. Oversees the Quality Assurance Program for the Nursing Department. Assists in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and interpreting the facility's goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
15. Understands and upholds the Resident’s Bill of Rights and holds all resident information confidential.
16. Performs other related duties and attends meetings that are deemed necessary by the Administrator.
1. Assumes full responsibility for in-service training and orientation of all facility staff and maintains appropriate records.
2. Act as facility champion for Healthcare Academy (or other similar software) which the facility utilizes for staff education/competencies, etc.
3. Assures competency of all nursing staff throughout their 90-day probationary period.
4. Meets with new nursing staff and preceptors at regular intervals throughout orientation as well as prior to being released to the unit after orientation.
5. Ensures the completion of skills sheets and that they are properly maintained in their personnel file.
6. Maintains competency testing records on all staff.
7. Provides education to staff as needed and for identified areas of need.
8. Records and updates listing of employee participation at in-services. Coordinates with all department heads to ensure employee participation in mandated in-services.
9. Administers PPD and Hepatitis B Vaccine when new staff members are hired. Administers PPDs annually to all staff. Maintains appropriate documentation.
10. Prepares, schedules, and updates monthly and annual calendars of in-service topics including mandated requirements. Secures appropriate and qualified trainers as necessary.
11. Performs competency testing of all nursing employees. Assists other department heads with competency testing of their staff.
12. Maintain all annual Life Safety/Fire Safety in-service records for all employees.
13. Coordinate, Implement, and Organize the new hire orientation program according to all state regulations and facility requirements.
14. Manages the Preceptor Program and assesses, implements, and evaluates the program on an ongoing basis to meet the training needs of the facility staff.
15. Assumes any duties that are assigned by the DNS to provide optimal quality resident care.
16. Attends meetings as assigned by the DNS. Conducts ongoing needs assessment of the facility and schedules educational programs as needed.
17. Performs other related duties and attends meetings as may be deemed necessary by the Supervisor / Administrator and or Director.
18. Participates in the facility on-call rotation schedule.
19. Assumes duty of the charge nurse role as required. Maintains knowledge of the charge nurse role as well as proficiency with the Electronic Health Record.
