Correctional Industries Specialist

Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent.

General Experience: Two (2) years of responsible work experience which shows that the applicant possesses the ability to relate effectively with people in following the instructions of a supervisor and giving or exchanging information and the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions. Trades experience that can be taught to participants is a plus.

Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive a 15-passenger vehicle.

Personal Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate that they possess traits and characteristics required for this work. Among these are: leadership, basic people skills, alertness, tact, integrity, honesty, good judgment, and the ability to deal fairly and firmly with inmates and employees.

Physical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, with or without a reasonable accommodation, the essential duties of the position, such as: reading reports, regulations and policies; observing inmate activity, behavior and movement; seeing and recognizing inmates at a distance; and identifying contraband; listening for unusual sounds which may indicate suspicious activity; walking and standing prolonged hours; and being actively engaged with the inmate work line while performing assigned duties.

All applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into any of these positions shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State, or local laws, or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
