Overview:
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Senior IT Project Manager will manage multiple projects across cross-functional teams to execute company-wide initiatives in business modernization, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and application development. Key responsibilities include creating project plans, managing budgets, tasks, risks, schedules, and resource allocation, analyzing and documenting business processes, identifying solutions, and leading the IT Project Management Office (PMO).

Key responsibilities include creating project plans, managing budgets, tasks, risks, schedules, and resource allocation, analyzing and documenting business processes, identifying solutions, and leading the IT Project Management Office (PMO).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to articulate and understand the technical aspects and context of proposed solutions to project stakeholders.
- Oversee a diverse portfolio of programs, projects, and initiatives for business modernization, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and applications.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including stakeholder identification, project deliverables, goals, milestones, budgets, communication strategies, and risk mitigation plans to ensure the project is on track and within budget.
- Define project requirements and oversee lifecycle deployment, coordinating resources, establishing governance structures, and developing and executing communication plans.
- Facilitate scope prioritization discussions, ensuring stakeholders are aware of and understand changes and their impact on the project.
- Design and implement change management strategies to foster open communication and drive optimal project outcomes and success.
- Collaborate with IT leadership to align solutions with business needs while ensuring robust security measures.
- Prepare and manage “Requests for Proposal/Information” (RFP/RFI) for external service agreements.
- Support the establishment of the IT Project Management Office (PMO) and lead steering committee meetings to oversee project portfolio priorities, scope, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Keep abreast of new technologies, compliance requirements, and other influences that affect projects they oversee.
OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
- Complies with all applicable corporate and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
- Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
- Performs all other related duties as instructed by manager.
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- At least five (5) years in-field experience of the job duties described demonstrating success in leading technical projects, analyzing business processes, and implementing systems and process improvements.
- Proven experience managing large-scale IT projects with substantial budgets.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
- Graduate degree in Information Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Project management experience in leading IT projects with budgets over $1M.
- Two (2) years’ software development experience.
- Experienced in projects that implemented cloud-based SaaS, IaaS, or PaaS solutions.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in business processes such as sales, accounting, and IT service management.
- Software contracts administration and project administration experience.
- Experience in the energy and/or utility industry.
- Previous experience working in a union environment.
- Familiarity with SOX audit requirements and process flow analysis.
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher certification).
- International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) certification.
