SALARY:  $5,716.20 per month | SR22 | BU09

LOCATION: This is a regional position that is located in the Inservice Education-Nursing department of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i, which includes Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics.

The Inservice Education-Nursing department develops and initiates orientation programs for new personnel; coordinates, develops, and implements educational programs for on-the-job training and continuing education for all hospital personnel. 

JOB FUNCTIONS: We are actively seeking for a passionate, skilled Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) IV to join our growing ‘ohana. Under the direction of the RPN V (Regional Nurse Manager – In-Service Education), this position assists with the planning, development, training, evaluation and coordination of in-service education for all hospital/clinic staff, agency, and volunteers. This position is responsible for ensuring that the age-appropriate healthcare needs of the adult, geriatric, pediatric and newborn population are provided by either coordinating directly, or in-servicing employees as mandated by all State and Federal Regulations, the Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies. The RPN IV may be subject to working rotating shifts, weekends and floats to other units to assist or take assignments in direct patient services and travel to and from the different facilities within Kaua’i Region, as needed. The RPN IV reports to the RPN V (Regional Nurse Manager – In-Service Education) position no. 20862, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Graduation from a nursing program with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Licensures: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai’i. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (Type #3) preferred.

Certifications: Possession of current certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers at appointment of hire. 

Possession of current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA; Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI); Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (IFM/AFM); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Labs and Emotional Support (STABLE) are highly recommended.

General Experience: One and one-half years (1 ½) of professional nursing experience where applicant independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital or institution.

Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must have demonstration possession of supervisory aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; Joint Commission requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts.

Ability to: plan and schedule the work of others and utilize the principles and practices of supervision; apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient’s condition; and take appropriate action; initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing and other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital.
