What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hawaiian Culture Teacher position at Hawaii Palms English School?
Our English language school is dedicated to creating immersive and educational experiences for learners of the English language in the heart of Waikiki. We offer a variety of English courses, and we'd also love to offer a class designed to help visitors and residents of all ages connect with the beauty and traditions of Hawaii, and we are currently seeking a passionate Hawaiian Culture Teacher to join our team.
As a Hawaiian Culture Teacher, you will create and lead classes that share the unique history, traditions, language, and customs of the Hawaiian Islands. Your role will be to design engaging lessons and interactive experiences that allow visitors to learn about the importance of Hawaiian culture in an enjoyable and informative way.
This position is an on-call position, dependent on student enrollment, so we are not able to guarantee a certain number of hours every week. If you are interested in a position with a flexible schedule where you can share your love and knowledge of Hawaii, we encourage you to apply.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a class.
- A deep knowledge and passion for Hawaiian culture.
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Proficiency in spoken and written English commensurate with a teacher's role as a language model
- Experience teaching or leading groups is a plus.
- Positive, energetic, and approachable personality.
Some of the responsibilities of this position are:
- Lead in-person classes for tourists, with varying levels of English language abilities, on various aspects of Hawaiian culture.
- Develop lessons that incorporate Hawaiian history, traditions, and language.
- Foster an interactive and welcoming environment for all learners.
- Share insights into Hawaiian customs, local practices, and cultural heritage.
- Communicate effectively with tourists of varying ages and backgrounds.
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary, Freelance
Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 1 – 10 per week
