ABOUT THE POSITION:
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy is currently seeking an experienced educator to serve as the Middle School Spanish Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The teaching assignment includes instructing an introduction to Spanish language and culture for grade 6, Levels A and B for grade 7, and grade 8, along with an advisory class. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience teaching Spanish to middle school students and hold a degree in a related discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach Spanish language and culture courses as assigned, including grade 6 introductory courses and Levels A and B for grade 7 and grade 8.
- Advise a group of 8-12 students, following their progress throughout the year and teaching social-emotional and academic skills.
- Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that encourage high-level thinking and active participation.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and best teaching practices.
- Support interdisciplinary learning and encourage project-based experiences.
- Create a classroom environment of respect and rapport while fostering a culture of learning.
- Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to departmental and school-wide initiatives.
- Participate in faculty and departmental meetings.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other assigned duties.
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, or conferences regarding curriculum and student progress.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master's in Education preferred; teaching credential preferred).
- Minimum of three to five years of experience teaching Spanish to middle school students, preferably in an independent school setting.
- Knowledge of national standards in Spanish language instruction and a proven ability to meet best practices.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for effective engagement with students and families.
- Ability to differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
- A team-oriented mindset with a commitment to contributing meaningfully to co-curricular programs.
- A proven ability to be a positive role model for students, both in and out of the classroom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.
- Experience designing and modifying curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
- Interest in coaching or leading extracurricular activities.
- Strong proficiency in using educational apps and technology to support learning.
Physical Demands:
- Be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
- Be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
