Position Overview
The Lighting Technician is a key member of the Technical Services team, responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting systems for a variety of productions and events. This role ensures that all lighting elements enhance the creative vision and meet technical requirements, delivering high-quality experiences for clients and audiences. The ideal candidate is skilled in lighting equipment, has a strong technical aptitude, and is passionate about creating visually stunning productions.
Key Responsibilities
Lighting Setup and Operation
Install and configure lighting equipment, including LED walls, moving lights, spotlights, and other fixtures, as per production specifications.
Program and operate lighting consoles during rehearsals, events, and live performances.
Adjust lighting cues in coordination with the Lighting Designer and other production staff to achieve the desired visual effects.
Equipment Maintenance
Inspect, maintain, and repair lighting equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
Troubleshoot technical issues during events and provide quick resolutions to minimize disruptions.
Assist in the inventory and organization of lighting equipment, ensuring readiness for upcoming productions.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with the Lighting Designer, Technical Director, and other production team members to ensure cohesive execution of the creative vision.
Coordinate with other departments, including staging, audio, and video, to integrate lighting seamlessly into the overall production.
Follow safety protocols and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment.
Event Support
Assist with pre-event planning, including site visits and technical evaluations, to determine lighting needs and feasibility.
Provide on-site support for load-in, rehearsals, live shows, and load-out, ensuring smooth operations.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Lighting Technician or similar role in live events, theater, or entertainment production.
Strong understanding of lighting equipment, control systems, and programming (e.g., ETC, MA Lighting consoles).
Familiarity with lighting design principles and techniques.
Knowledge of electrical systems and basic troubleshooting.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to fast-paced environments.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment and work at heights.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in lighting or technical theater production is a plus.
Experience with rigging and integration of lighting with video and staging elements.
Knowledge of Hawai‘i’s cultural and creative industries is an advantage.
