GENERAL SUMMARY
The Vice President of Support Services provides visionary executive leadership and overall management of the company’s support services activities, including human resource planning, benefits, employee relations, information technology, compliance programs (safety, environmental, engineering), training/leadership development programs, process improvement initiatives, and capital budgeting. Supports company operational elements for business development and growth strategies aimed at organizational improvements that align with business goals and objectives while fostering an environment that attracts and retains talent, leading to being recognized as the employer of choice for Hawaii’s people and the partner of choice for Hawaii’s building industry. Serves as a company representative to the community and supports company and corporate initiatives as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in majors related to human resources, construction, business, related fields, or equivalent experience with progressively responsible management experience in a construction materials company setting.
- Five or more years of proven company support services experience.
- Experience working and managing complex projects.
- Proficient with MS Office suite of products and industry-related computer software.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, lead, and motivate company personnel.
- High ethical and moral standards with strong analytical and financial skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Experience training, developing, assessing, and mentoring company personnel.
- Certification as a Six Sigma Green Belt.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in human resource management, business, legal, related fields, or equivalent experience.
- Ten or more years of proven operations management experience in the construction materials industry.
- Experience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
- Certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
- *Responsible for overseeing support services activities, ensuring compliance, and achieving company goals and strategic initiatives.
- *Leads efforts to recruit and retain talent by developing, planning, and implementing strategies and tactics to keep pace in the ever-changing HR fields and remain competitive in our markets. Directs and manages employee benefits packages to include acquisition strategies.
- *Manages company policies as they relate to employees. Oversees the administration of disciplinary actions to ensure fairness, equality, and consistency. Liaison between the company and organized labor in employee relation activities, initiatives, and collective bargaining.
- *Oversees the company’s regulatory compliance teams and stewardship of MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DLNR, and other governmental entities.
- *Oversees safety, environmental, IT, and engineering departments to develop, train, coach, and support best practices and policies.
- *Oversees improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiencies, reduce waste, and ensure sustainability aligns with business objectives.
- *Manages company loss prevention programs (Worker’s Compensation, Auto / General Liability), ensuring administration and compliance.
- *Collaborates with operations as a strategic business partner, providing leadership in employee relations and value-added support services.
- *Functions as Company Compliance Officer, administering the Ethics Point and Leading with Integrity programs. Assists in investigating and resolving employee relation matters while advising on work-related conflicts consistent with company purpose, mission, and vision.
- *Manages training program design, strategy, and execution to develop employee skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities to foster growth.
- *Manages company capital investment projects for upgrades and capacity expansions to support operations.
- *Oversees communications efforts, both internal and external communications, developing and implementing strategies to enhance the company's public image, promote its brand and products, facilitate internal information sharing, and foster positive media relations.
- *Represent the company on corporate committees and initiatives.
- *Ability to work under pressure with people of varying backgrounds and personalities with the highest degree of confidentiality and discretion.
