What are the responsibilities and job description for the Collections Representative position at HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union?
The Collections Representative is responsible for collections efforts and resolving overdue accounts, ensuring timely payments, and maintaining a positive relationship with members. This role involves contacting members to collect outstanding debts, negotiating payment plans, and updating account information. The Collections Representative will also help educate members in the value of maintaining good credit history.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collections:
- Maintains a thorough understanding of state and federal laws/regulations, Credit Union policies, Fair Debt Collection practices, and other applicable rules and regulations related to collections/recovery.
- Reviews files for related loans for a total collection effort
- Able to handle high volume of inbound/outbound collection calls and emails (internal/external)
- Performs basic knowledge of performing skip tracing efforts.
- Effectively handles multiple tasks to ensure completion of all work and duties within the department on a daily/timely basis.
- Able to work independently and to make sound decisions with little or no supervision.
Bankruptcy:
- Basic knowledge of bankruptcy laws and procedures.
Repossession:
- Basic knowledge of repossession process.
Recovery:
- Basic knowledge of settlement process.
- Able to tactfully discuss and negotiate payments for delinquent loans and/or credit cards with members.
Support:
- Ability to research accounts and resolve difficult problems with minimal supervision.
- Participates in a team effort to effectively control delinquencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- High School Diploma or GED required
- General office, collections, recovery, and/or lending experience; beneficial
- 1 years of experience in a consumer collection environment, consumer lending, customer service and/or within a financial service organization.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to collections, repossessions, bankruptcy, and recoveries.
- Able to work both independently and cohesively with others
- Able to handle all confidential matters professionally; always maintaining the privacy of our member’s account information.
- Able to effectively multi-task all assignments ensuring timely completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The expected pay range for Collections Representative is $24.70 - $27.00 per hour.
