Hawarden Regional Healthcare has clinics located in Hawarden, Akron, and Ireton. The Full-Time Clinic Patient Account Representative may be scheduled to work in any of our clinic locations.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, performs computerized patient scheduling. Receives patients and visitors and answers the telephone. Completes the patient office visit by collecting payments or co-payments for appropriate services, and schedules provider requested follow-up appointments. Adheres to the mission and values and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: |
1. |
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission. |

Inputs daily appointment schedules for patients and schedules new patients as referred. Consults with provider(s) when need arises. |
3. |
Assists clinic manager in preparing the provider schedules. |
4. |
Prints and distributes daily patient schedules to appropriate areas. |
5. |
Updates and verifies patient demographics, including specialty groups i.e., Title 19, Workers Compensation, etc. |
6. |
Answers telephone calls and maintain accuracy in receiving and relaying of messages from external and internal customers. |
7. |
Performs all the necessary and required functions when checking in a patient prior to a visit. This would include maintaining the proper forms in the patient chart and assisting the patient in completing the necessary and required forms for their medical record. |

Assists patient with the checkout process including collecting payment and/or co-pays for the appropriate services. Also making provider requested follow-up visit appointments. |

Assists with overseeing the transfer of patient’s medical records as well as medical requests from outside agencies. |
10. |
Prepares all incoming patient information for filing in patient’s medical record. Also participate in purging of inactive patient records and moving them to the designated area. |

Serves as an advocate for patient and families. |
12. |
Does all pre-authorization procedures accurately and timely. |
13. |
Collects patient co-payments at time of service. |
14. |
Uses effective communication principles to coordinate care with other health care providers. |
15. |
Recognizes and communicates clinic issues & occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, & assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes. |

Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) |

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business. |

Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration. |

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. |

Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience of one to two years in a medical office or health care facility preferred.
- Is able to communicate effectively with customers and all members of the health care team.
- Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
- Must have general working knowledge of computers and clinic specific software

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.
- Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job description, including frequent walking, bending, sitting, standing and occasional lifting over 25 pounds. Knowledge of body mechanics necessary.
- Able to function effectively under stressful situations.
- Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as infectious disease.
- Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
