POSITION GOAL
Family Learning Connection (FLC) Childcare Assistants provide a key support to the FCL family education process. Childcare Assistants will assist in the operation of the childcare during Linn County family group sessions under the supervision of the group’s Childcare Lead and FLC Admin. Childcare Assistants may also assist with family group support tasks.
SCHEDULE AND WAGE
Flexible hours to provide childcare during FLC groups, primarily nights & weekend hours. Number of hours vary depending on workshops offered, needs of the program, attendance, and registration.
$15.10 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist with maintaining a positive, nurturing, and safe environment at the group site.
- Actively participate in and reinforce children’s play and care both indoors and out.
- Communicate with children at their level and model positive caregiver/child interaction.
- Enforce rules and limits for children’s behavior calmly and consistently; utilizing positive discipline approaches to challenging behaviors.
- Refrain from utilizing restraints, seclusions or any physical force as a form of discipline.
- Follow reasonable procedures for maintaining health and safety for the children.
- Follow reporting procedures for any notable incidents that occur at the site.
- Assist with any planned family activities during group sessions.
- Assist in supervising children on bathroom breaks.
- Assist in clean-up of childcare area at the end of each session
- Communicate with parents during programming, as needed.
- Assist with family meals/snacks and feeding young children and infants.
- Work at least three family group class series between August and June
- Any other duties deemed reasonable and necessary by Lead Childcare staff
- Communicate any concerns with lead childcare, facilitator, or FLC Admin staff
- Attend FLC team meetings and trainings, as directed
- Practices sensitivity to serve populations’ cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
- Follows policies, procedures, and compliance standards in accordance with HACAP and Family Learning Connections
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Must be at least 18 year of age.
- Ideally have at least three (3) months of experience working with children between the ages of birth – 8 years.

- Ability to read, comprehend and complete program procedures.
- Ability to use good judgment
- Be a team player, as well as be able to work independently when needed
- Ability to work with a diverse population, including socio-economic and cultural diversity
- Ability to work effectively with age-appropriate activities in the classroom and relate with children in a positive way
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Valid driver's license and car insurance
- Reliable transportation for use on the job.
- Must pass criminal background check as required by Funding Agency.
- Must complete Mandatory Abuse Reporter Training (Funding Agency) and Blood Borne Pathogen training (HACAP).
