III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Cognizant of all dental front office positions to allow for rotation of same.
2. Greets patients and visitors, screens calls and visitors, schedules appointments according to established protocols, and arranges referrals under provider direction.
3. Assists with referrals when needed to assure they are appropriately tracked and the results/reports are processed for provider review.
4. Assists in entering and updating Medicare, Medicaid and all other insurance information relative to users in the computer at each visit.
5. Assists in preparing new records, assist in retrieving, re-filing and maintaining patient records/charts in an accurate manner.
6. Assists in maintaining appointment recall file when applicable.
7. Acts as liaison between patients and provider while maintaining confidentiality of medical and dental information.
8. Responsible for verifying/updating patient information to include: address, phone number, employer, etc., at each visit.
9. Assures that patient charts are properly documented in regards to no-shows, cancellations, reschedules, referrals, insurance identification, and all other pertinent information.
10. Performs clerical duties as assigned by supervisor and provider staff.
11. Assists patients with inquiries concerning their bills when necessary.
12. Responsible for maintaining adequate office supplies by advising Office Manager.
13. Will be familiar with all center programs and their funding criteria.
14. Will compile and report statistical data required by the organization.
15. Will keep current on all computer capabilities.
16. Will participate in any special work assignments deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
17. Responsible for maintaining work area in a neat and organized manner.
18. Responsible for calling in prescriptions per the dentist’s instructions.
19. Responsible for informing patients of Sliding Fee requirements and options.
20. Responsible for following opening and closing procedures for front office to include: setting and unsetting phones, confirmation calls, balancing cash drawer and completing deposit sheet, closing and locking office at the end of the day, etc.
21. Clerks must take dental schedules home every evening in case of bad weather or provider is out sick.
V. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School graduate or equivalent.
2. Must be proficient in typing, filing and data processing.
3. Dependable and confident.
4. Ability to establish good rapport with staff, patients and the public.
5. Ability to maintain calm and pleasant composure under stressful conditions.
6. Ability to work efficiently at a speed necessary to perform job responsibilities in a timely manner.
7. Ability to make decisions in a rational, calm manner in the case of an emergency situation.
