COMMERCIAL BANKING ASSISTANT
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting commercial bankers with preparing documentation required for loan closings. Commercial Banking Assistants (CBA) work on collection of information from customers to assist in credit quality on existing relationships with the bank. This position may meet with customers regarding loan requests. This position has contact with commercial bankers, credit analysts, loan operations, banking center personnel, and customers. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical aspects of this job. Work is performed within the framework of standard operating policies and procedures; however, independent judgment and discretion is required in performing assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Review commercial write up to determine what information and collateral is being taken on loan request. Gather documentation for pending commercial loan file requests; including but not limited to corporate documents, census information, flood determination, title work, appraisals, insurance, inspections, etc. .
Review loan documents for accuracy and completion to send out to customers or prepare for closing
Track and prepare commercial loan extensions for processing, including updating collateral as needed, for file. Coordinate with processing department to get documents completed and ready for customer and commercial banker.
Answer telephone, take and transmit messages; greet and screen visitors then direct to appropriate personnel; schedule appointments; provide general secretarial support to loan officers; file documentation, as needed; distribute mail.
Answer routine questions and inquiries regarding loans within standard operating policies and procedures and applicable state and federal rules and regulations.
Prepare paperwork and process telephone and wire transfers for customers, including advances or payments
Receive financial statements and update tracking accordingly; communicates with loan officer regarding financial statements that are pending.
Track collateral and other documentation information to guarantee the bank’s status in perfecting liens or staying on budget with projects.
Open commercial deposit accounts and CIF records on core system as requested by commercial banking staff.
Notarize documents per customer request.
Comply with all banking regulations, policies, and procedures.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain educational and professional expertise through attendance at job related seminars, conferences and workshops. Represent the bank in a variety of community activities and functions.
Reviews technical bulletins, newsletters, etc; distributes information to employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school plus additional bank related training.
Possess a minimum of two to three years of general work experience in a lending department or comparable experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have the ability to operate office and bank equipment (e.g., telephone, 10-key calculator, personal computer and printer, copy machine, fax machine, document scanner, check encoder, security system, etc.). Must have working knowledge of Office products.
Advanced PC knowledge.

Has frequent contact with individuals in all lending and operations departments. Has frequent contact with customers.
