Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in providing high-quality patient care in our ophthalmology clinic. The Ophthalmic Assistant will support the ophthalmologist by performing various clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow while maintaining a welcoming environment for patients.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake, including obtaining medical history and current medications.
- Perform preliminary eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, tonometry, and other diagnostic tests.
- Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary equipment is sanitized and ready for use.
- Schedule appointments and manage the front desk operations efficiently.
- Provide patients with information regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
- Assist with medical billing processes and verify insurance information as needed.
- Stay updated on medical terminology and clinic protocols to enhance patient interactions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is required. Previous ophthalmic or optometric clinic experience a plus.
- Familiarity with front desk operations, including scheduling and managing medical records.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Basic understanding of medical billing processes is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems is beneficial.
