PURPOSE: The Campus Services Maintenance Technician works in a team to support reactive and preventive care and maintenance of HVA buildings, grounds, equipment and vehicles. In addition to supporting the daily operations of the School, Farm and Store, the CS Maintenance Technician reinforces Hawthorne Valley’s commitments to environmental sustainability, social impact and cost efficiency as a part of our public commitment to a “Net Positive” Campus.
WORK HOURS: 8:00am-4:30pm M-F; Occasional off-hour, evening and weekend hours may be required to support calendared community events or school functions. STATUS: Reports to Campus Services Maintenance Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: ● Manage maintenance workshop equipment and inventory, ensuring availability of campus maintenance supplies and mission-aligned purchasing ● Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities (including parts inventory and equipment service history). ● Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in a timely manner. ● Perform routine maintenance of equipment and building systems ● Operate transport and grounds maintenance vehicles, hand and power tools safely, effectively and in compliance with HVA written policies ● Perform regular preventive maintenance on Campus vehicles and equipment ● Serve as occasional first-responder for after-hours or weekend emergency mechanical or maintenance issues on campus (based on team shift schedules) ● Perform other related seasonal or cross-functional duties as assigned by the Campus Maintenance Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS: ● Experience in a range of relevant areas: mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, and electric ● Basic computer skills for work order tracking, inventory management. ● Proven experience in equipment maintenance and repair ● Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail. ● Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively, courteously and professionally with colleagues, supervisors and visitors ● A commitment to safety and a focus on operations sustainability. ● Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions. Must have the ability to run medium subcompact tractors and equipment (small to medium tractors, snow blowers, lawn mowers, chain saws). ● Valid driver's license and reliable transportation ● Willingness and ability to learn to meet the changing requirements of the job
