Beautiful Hayden Lake is accepting resumes for a Chief of Police. Our small city is a quiet town nestled in the trees between Hayden Lake and Coeur d’Alene. We have a few miles of roads, a city park, and under 1000 residents; with many staying here only seasonally. The Police Department’s relationship with our residents is key to keeping our small-town feel.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This is a 40-hour per week, full-time, non-exempt position with administrative and supervisory responsibilities. The Police Chief performs law enforcement and crime prevention to further the criminal justice process by patrolling the city to observe, monitor, and enforce a wide array of ordinances, laws, and statutes. Interacts with the general public on a regular basis to provide educational, investigative, and related police services with the goal of preventing crime, ensuring public safety, and developing positive police-citizen relationships. Traffic enforcement is emphasized within the City of Hayden Lake, along with city code enforcement. Also, to act as an ambassador to the community and work to grow positive relationships with the community at large.
ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must meet all Idaho POST requirements and have successfully completed a POST Certified Basic Academy and is an experienced police officer who has worked for a municipal, county, or state agency(s), completed a probationary period and has a minimum of sixty (60) months of full-time employment in either a patrol or investigative capacity. This may include academy and field training time. Corrections, reserve officer, security officer, and federal officer experience does not fulfill our requirement for certified police experience needed as an applicant. Out of state applicants must be willing to challenge Idaho POST. Applicants must be a Citizen of the United States and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be minimum 21 years old and maintain a valid driver’s license. Conviction or withheld judgment of any state, local or federal crime may be grounds for rejection.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to attend schools or training as assigned. Ability to work closely with other department personnel and have a neat and clean appearance. Must be able to communicate effectively. Applicant must possess basic typing skills, computer knowledge, and the ability to learn a wide variety of skills for the job. The patrolling Chief of Police will work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays, as required. Beginning pay depends on experience, with overtime opportunities available. An excellent benefits package is available and membership in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI) and Social Security is required.
