Job Summary

The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing essential lubrication, comprehensive inspections, and routine maintenance on heavy equipment at various locations. This ensures the reliability and longevity of both Hayden Machinery’s fleet and customer-owned machinery. The role primarily focuses on executing on-site preventive maintenance procedures, with occasional troubleshooting and minor repairs as required for a wide range of heavy equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in equipment maintenance, and dedicated to providing outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Positively take ownership of the customer experience with Hayden Machinery, ensuring satisfaction and professionalism in every interaction.
  • Perform lubrication services on heavy equipment, including construction and mining machinery, in field locations.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential maintenance needs and ensure machinery is in optimal working condition.
  • Replace fluids, filters, and other consumable components as required.
  • Document service and maintenance activities accurately in service logs or digital systems. Include diagnostic and repair steps along with fluids and parts used, in a detailed and accurate manner. Follow any and all requirements for warranty repairs to ensure proper payment can be obtained from the warranty provider.
  • Collaborate with service managers and parts personnel to ensure efficient and timely repair service. Ensure the requesting of parts is accurate and up to date for the project at hand.
  • Stay updated on new equipment technologies and attend relevant training programs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized service truck stocked with necessary tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, providing excellent service and technical advice as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years minimum experience as a heavy equipment lube technician or technician
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills including, typing/data entry, Microsoft/GSuite, email/text communication.
  • Industry knowledge and experience with heavy equipment and related systems (i.e. engine, hydraulic, etc.).
  • MSHA certified, or the ability to be MSHA certified.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Motor Vehicle driver's license. This must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not previously held.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic tools as well as diagnosing equipment utilizing technology such as laptop computers (i.e. CAT “ET” , Cummins Insight, Deere Service Advisor).
  • Understand attention to detail and time management.

Physical Abilities/Requirements:

  • Able to work overtime, including evenings, occasional weekends, holidays (on rare occasions) and traveling/overnight stays.
  • Able to stand for an extensive amount of time. Able to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Work is performed with frequent exposure to outside elements and seasonal environmental factors. Frequent stooping, bending and lifting occur. The majority of the time is spent walking, driving or standing.
