Job description:
A paralegal or legal assistant provides litigation support to 1-2 a attorneys and performs legal tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Preparing correspondence, agreements and documents from rough draft;
- E-filing in state and federal court;
- Proof and edit legal documents;
- Communicate with clients to draft and answer discovery;
- Organize and bates number discovery documents, redacting, organize and index case files and records as needed;
- Interview with potential clients;
- Schedules depositions and other meetings;
- Communicates in person, by telephone, fax, mail or email with internal and external contacts.
Job Requirements
Education, training, experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of litigation experience required.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Skilled in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Knowledge of legal terminology to understand complex legal terms and phrases, knowledge of legal formats and knowledge of legal procedures in order to effectively communicate with legal staff, and to determine what information is to be entered into the data base.
- Knowledge of litigation processes and court proceedings to recognize case status and to analyze case files and other source documents to properly docket and to identify errors.
- Skilled in operating business telephone equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications [i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other litigation software).
- Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items.
