The Role
Hazen, a privately held engineering services firm, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), to support HR across the Firm’s offices in the US, Canada, the UK and Central / South America. Our team has returned to a traditional, in person work schedule. This role entails working closely and collaboratively with the C-Suite, including the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operations Officer, the Board, and multiple other business leaders across all levels of the Firm to develop and execute a strategic vision for high quality HR, consistent with Hazen’s unique culture, to support recruiting and retention of top talent, while maintaining full compliance across all states and multiple countries. The CHRO manages the Firm’s corporate HR staff in the execution of day-to-day tasks, implementing the HR strategy, and addressing emerging issues. Human Resources are managed as a corporate, Firm-wide function, located across several of the Firm’s 10 regions / countries. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in HR management with a deep understanding of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and the ability to navigate complex organizational challenges. A broad portfolio of experience is required for this role.
Duties and responsibility for this role include :
- Collaborating with the Board to develop HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the company’s mission and strategic vision.
- Collaborating with the Board to develop an HR masterplan and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operations objectives, including identifying specific needs and charting courses of action.
- Advising senior leaders regarding key personnel and / or organizational issues.
- Supporting strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the human capital needs of strategic goals.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive benefits plans that are in keeping with our culture and are cost-effective.
- Managing vendor relationships and advocating for employees for dispute resolution.
- Ensuring compliance with all labor laws and regulations, as well as monitoring and staying updated with new developments in HR laws and practice, while promoting ethical standards within the organization.
- Providing cohesive leadership of the HR staff, who are equipped and empowered to address unique challenges faced by various geographic regions within the Firm. Current HR functions include : hiring support, onboarding, employee engagement / retention, and benefits, with potential for future expansion into talent acquisition, career development, training support, leadership development.
Candidates must be highly motivated self-starters, articulate, demonstrate superior communication, technology (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, HRIS platforms). negotiation, people and organizational skills, and be comfortable and confident in dealing directly with the Board and executive leaders. Effective planning and organizing skills to prioritize key areas of responsibility, tasks, and projects with conflicting deadlines are a must. A proven ability to work collaboratively to develop unique solutions to align with the Firm’s culture and to establish a high degree of credibility, respect, and trust at all levels, is necessary.
