JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator is responsible for reviewing project plans, conducting thorough analyses of project requirements, and providing accurate cost estimates. You will collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure cost-effective solutions and successful project proposals. Additionally, you will actively participate in industry and client relations, contribute to project budgeting, and assist with project closeout processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year college degree in engineering, construction management, building construction or similar is preferable and a minimum of 5 years of estimating experience.
Proven experience as an Estimator in the construction industry.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Perform estimating functions with working knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as Bluebeam, Procore and Bim related software.
Proficient basic computer skills in Microsoft office with advanced skills in Excel.
Proactively identify and solve problems to minimize risk and assure that potential risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with the leadership team.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Ability to manage $500k to $1M dollar estimates for complex projects.
Have technical knowledge of individual trades to understand scopes of work and ability to evaluate bids.
Proficient in reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents.
Familiarity with cost databases, industry benchmarks, and pricing sources.
Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and accurate conceptual budgets.
Experience in soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of project budgeting and financial forecasting.
Familiarity with project closeout processes and documentation.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
Identify new work opportunities and inform leadership team of potential projects with current clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to understand the scope of work.
Conduct a thorough analysis of project requirements, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
Collaborate with project managers to clarify project details and identify any potential challenges or opportunities.
Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from project drawings and specifications.
Research and gather pricing information for materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Utilize cost databases, historical data, and industry benchmarks to estimate costs.
Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and indirect costs.
Identify and solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors for various project components.
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure scope, competitiveness, and compliance.
Negotiate pricing and terms with subcontractors and suppliers to achieve cost-effective solutions.
Maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate future bidding and collaboration and new work.
Prepare and compile bid packages, ensuring all required documentation and qualifications are included.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to review and finalize bid submissions.
Submit bids within specified deadlines and follow up as necessary.
LICENSES/SPECIAL TRAINING:
Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) preferred
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred
