We are currently seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.
Job Summary
The Senior Payroll Specialist will act as a liaison between the Information Technology Department and Payroll end users regarding payroll issues, troubleshooting system errors and determining the need for technical support. Responsible for ensuring all payroll processes are administered in an effective and efficient manner and that system policies are followed. A thorough working knowledge of the payroll systems and human capital management is essential in the performance of duties.
Essential Functions
Process on and off-cycle payrolls and special check runs to ensure employees are paid timely and accurately.
Compute overpayments and send out letters to employees informing them of the overpayments.
Update and evaluate human capital management tables and calendars associated with payroll processes.
Conduct analytical research and implement testing of various tax updates and patches made to the payroll system to ensure they are applied accurately.
Send timesheets to field locations and assist with maintenance of security and access for time entry users.
Attend meetings with the HRIMS department on updates to the system and requirements.
Request new queries and/or SQR reports that will help in running payroll more smoothly.
Run complicated payroll jobs using the payroll process sheet that has been established.
Develop and update proper documentation on payroll processing procedures and establish possible solutions to problems with the payroll system.
Perform paycheck distribution and general ledger interface after each payroll run.
Assist with quarterly tax reporting for 941 and preparation of year-end (fiscal & calendar year) reporting and balance reconciliation.
Train other payroll personnel in running all payroll jobs and new payroll processes.
Work closely with Talent Engagement in maintaining the integrity of the human capital management system.
Keep abreast of federal and state mandated changes affecting payroll and ensure that all payroll processes are in compliance with federal & state guidelines.
Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
Education and Experience
• Associate’s degree required
• 4 years of directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Management or a closely related field preferred
• 5 years of work experience with a payroll system or closely related field.

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner.
