Role Description

HCH, Inc. is seeking a full-time, on-site Piping Designer based in Monroe, LA. The Piping Designer will be responsible for developing and implementing piping designs, creating plant layouts, and utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. Daily responsibilities will include designing piping systems for multiple industries, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with other engineers and designers to achieve project goals.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the piping design efforts for large-scale, complex projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Review and approve piping designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct design feasibility studies and analyze different options to optimize design, layout, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate with procurement, construction, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless project implementation.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and project engineers to support design integration and ensure the final product meets all performance, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Prepare and review layout and detail drawings, sketches, and other design documents for complex or original designs.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary coordination to ensure compatibility and integration of designs across mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines.
  • Participate in field walkdowns and site visits as needed, providing onsite support and ensuring design implementation aligns with field conditions.
  • Support project engineers in non-routine tasks, such as writing procedures, specifications, and analyzing bids.


Qualifications and Experience

  • 10 years of experience in piping design, with a focus on Pulp and Paper and Petrochemical industries.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid background in plot plans, equipment layouts, and cross-disciplinary team coordination.
  • Experience with Laser Scanning is a plus.


Physical Demands

  • Occasional field trips to construction sites or operating plants, requiring the ability to stand, walk, climb, and navigate varied terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform tasks that require close, distance, and depth perception.
