The role will also focus on managing and monitoring grant funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and supporting the effective use of grant resources. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Executive Team, external auditors, and external program managers to assist in the preparation of financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.

- $55,000 - $65,000 per year, based on experience

The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Executive Team, external auditors, and external program managers to assist in the preparation of financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
Position Expectations
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting, and the ability to reconcile discrepancies in financial records;
- Ability to identify issues and work with the executive team and collaborative partners to resolve the issues;
- Utilize established resources to complete work efficiently, effectively, and independently
- Must have strong organizational skills and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Maintain positive and collaborative relationships internally and externally as a representative of Headquarters Kansas;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Reliable transportation;
- Must be able to pass State and Federal criminal background checks.
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial statements;
- Perform account analysis and assist in the preparation and presentation of financial reports for management and the Board of Directors;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and verify that proper documentation is provided for processing;
- Manage and track all grant activities, ensuring that all funds are allocated, expended, and reported in accordance with grant agreements and regulations;
- Assist in the preparation of reimbursement reports for grant funders according to policies, procedures, and grant requirements;
- Assist in preparing grant proposals ensuring data aligns with funder requirements;
- Assist in the preparation of departmental and organizational budgets;
- Provide analysis of budgeted versus actual expenses, highlighting areas of concern and opportunities for cost savings;
- Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and forecasts, ensuring alignment with grant budgets and other financial goals;
- Assist in developing and improving internal controls related to accounting and grant management processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency;
- Reviews and verifies travel vouchers and supporting documentation for compliance with policies and regulations and approved reimbursement criteria;
- Provides any training necessary to agency staff to ensure fiscal items are completed accurately;
- Assist internal and external audits related to grants and other funding sources;
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
- Two years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work;
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Excel (advanced skills required).
- Certified Public Accountant;
- Knowledge of nonprofit financial management;
- Knowledge of federal and state grant regulations, compliance, and reporting requirements.
