PROJECT MANAGER - EXEMPT
Queen City Railroad Construction, Inc operates as a railroad construction contractor for building and repairing railroad tracks primarily in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern regions of the United States.
General Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a number of different types of railroad construction projects and estimating future projects/contracts. They will lead the project from initiation to close, hiring subcontractors, working with vendors and tracking inventory of equipment and materials. This person should be knowledgeable about regulations, permits and project management methodology. They should also work well with others, be highly organized and detail-oriented, meet deadlines and strive to stay within budget.
Responsibilities:
Define project scope
Create and manage project budgets
Create construction project management plan
Negotiate with subcontractors to obtain profitable contracts
Develop construction schedule with project deliverables and milestones
Keep inventory of tool, equipment and machinery
Manage resources – materials, workers and equipment
Oversee performance of site Foreman/Supervisor and subcontractors
Estimate future projects/contracts
Must follow all DOT, OSHA and FRA regulations specific to job
Other duties as assigned by Senior Management
Minimum Requirements:
Extensive travel is required
5 years of project management experience in the construction industry
Prior experience in civil work preferred
Prior experience in managing budgets, crews, and schedules
Experience leading a construction crew
Risk management experience in construction projects
Must pass background check and drug test

Project management skills such as time management, project budgeting, resource management, and project scheduling
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience: Strong knowledge of construction management best practices; fluency in software programs related to construction management, including project management software; current with rules and regulations related to construction. Safety conscious with high regard to other employees working with or near equipment. Must be a team player and willing to learn all phases of job requirements. Will require being away from home for extended periods of time.
Physical requirements and environmental conditions: Must be able to perform duties outside in multiple environments including but not limited to heat and humidity, rain, snow, and ice. Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods of time and lift/carry or push/pull equipment and other objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel for extended periods of time.
