EMG Technician, First Shift, Neurology

UC Health is hiring a full-time Electromyography Technician for the Neurology department for the first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Neurology Department Electromyography Technician will support the University of Cincinnati Medical Center's unit and Greater Cincinnati's only Level I Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. The major focus on the technician's role is to operate electromyography equipment used in the diagnosis of muscle disease and denervation to test the electrical activity of muscles, and compute and record graphic data according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Prepare patients for electromyography procedure; apply electrodes to proper position on body and adjust as required. Operate electromyography equipment to test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and to assist physicians in performing the more advanced electromyography techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases. Assist physician as Medical Assistant.
  • Confer with patients to obtain information concerning medical history and to explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation. Review and analyze patient history to determine with physician proper procedures for test modality to be used. Observe patient during testing and report significant changes in patient's condition to attending medical staff, check limb temperatures and warm patients as necessary.
  • Compute and record graphic data in accordance with established procedures; analyze and calculate results of tests and prepare preliminary report of findings; type formal reports and various laboratory records as required.
  • Calibrate and clean equipment in accordance with standardized procedures and maintain assigned work area in clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Years of Experience Two years of related experience or equivalent education.
