POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant I perform duties such as: tray set-ups for patient treatment, vital signs, assist doctor with patient treatments/procedure, break down exam rooms and re-set for next patients, clean and sterilize, help with maintenance of medical equipment, and assist with explanation of treatment option and treatment coordinating with patient. May perform other related work to include, but not limited to scheduling appointments, answering phones, pull and file charts, training new staff, inventory control, assisting with ordering supplies, help with dental referrals, and help with medical billing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below you will find essential duties and responsibilities to successfully perform this job. Reasonable accommodation will be granted, as necessary to perform the essential duties and function of this position.
- Document Chief Complaint, Patient medical history, social history, family history, current medications, and other pertinent information
- Take and document patient vital signs: Blood pressure, temperature, etc.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for medical test and examinations
- Create a positive and comfortable atmosphere for patients and colleagues
- Assist Providers during examination, treatment and procedures as requested
- Perform minor procedures direct supervision of a provider
- Collect specimens, process, and label as required
- Perform lab tests such as UA/UPT, EKG, HGB, etc. as requested and allowable
- Administer topical, oral, intramuscular medications/vaccines as ordered and qualified
- Stock exam rooms daily
- Stock and monitor medical supplies, medications, and vaccines
- Inform manager of all shortages of supplies or any malfunctioning equipment
- Clean and sanitize all rooms such as exam, treatment, vital, and waiting rooms everyday
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments in accordance with policies and procedures
- Accurately document vaccine and medical supply usage in patient chart and log binder
- Record Vaccine refrigerator/s and freezer/s temperature twice daily
- Import Labs into patient files
- Assist with communication between provider, patient, HALO personnel and third-party providers
- Complete lab slips and other required forms when necessary
- Traveling to other medical clinics to provide coverage
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, other governing authority regulations, and Internal Policies and Procedures
- Assure all work/laboratory/exam areas are compliant in all standards such as OSHA, Medical Board, HALO Policies and Procedures
- At all times you will perform and undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are requested of you by Office Manager and/or Provider

- EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION
- High School Diploma OR equivalent
- Certificate of completion for an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- One year of experience as a medical assistant preferred
- SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Ability to conduct oneself in a profession manner at all times
- Ability to cooperative and collaborate with a team of medical professional to provide non-discriminatory care to underserved patient populations
- Ability to use Word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook
- Ability to learn and use Electronic Health Record Systems (e.g., IMS, EPIC and Dentrix).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take initiative and function with a high level of independence and problem solve.
- Ability to maintain a good attendance and report to work on time

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is characteristic of a clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to handle or feel. The employee is also required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
