The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description As an Office Assistant 2 assigned to the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Office at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following key responsibilities: MDS- Intimate knowledge of federally mandated regulations regarding timing of MDS assessments used for care planning and billing purposes- Setting MDS dates according to federal regulations to avoid federal regulatory deficiencies orpenalties- Monitoring the interdisciplinary team’s MDS documentation to ensure completion and timelinessto meet federally mandated requirements- Communication, open and direct, with interdisciplinary team members regarding theirperformance during MDS completionMedicare- Intimate knowledge of Medicare coverage criteria and guidelines for billing purposes- Submitting protected health information to insurance companies for the purpose of continuedcoverage or payment- Communication with insurance company representatives regarding on-going cases anddocumentation needs for coordination of benefitsHandle requests/authorizations for outpatient therapy services to allow for billing of theseservices to a third-party payer- Submitting protected health information to CMS appointed representatives for audit purposesCommunication with resident representatives regarding federally mandated documents that mustbe completed at the end of Medicare services – Ensuring these documents are handled accordingto federal guidelines- Prepare and submit documentation to support third-party audits for billing purposesCommunication- Maintain open lines of communication with other departments regarding MDS, Medicare and care planning process- Provide education and assist with completing tasks in the EHR such as assigning staff and changing profiles to ensure proper documentation is available for NAC staffAudits- Develop audit tools for purposes of tracking topics of concern for billing or survey such as baseline temperatures, weights, heights, tuberculosis screens, falls, Medicare days, MedicareCase Mix, Medicare certifications, federally mandated matrix data for survey- Generate reports from the EHR to audit potential problem areas such as oxygen, catheters,psychotropic medications
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS: One year of clerical experience.Promotion: one year as an Office Assistant 1; or one year of permanent service in a clerical or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher.
