JOB SUMMARY
Working within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction, the Harm Reduction Coordinator supports data collection and harm reduction activities for the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction (SUPHR) at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH). This includes engaging with people who use drugs and other community stakeholders to conduct surveys, distribute harm reduction resources, and support SUPHR’s surveillance drug checking program. The Harm Reduction Coordinator also supports harm reduction and overdose reversal trainings, and other programs within SUPHR to provide harm reduction resources and education. Lastly, the Harm Reduction Coordinator will support collaboration with other City Departments and Agencies, and partner organizations to conduct field data collection, and increase uptake of harm reduction best practices.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Responsibilities/Duties
- Monitor outreach activities, including but not limited to field epidemiology and harm reduction supply distribution
- Conduct collection of quantitative and qualitative data with people who use drugs and other community stakeholders.
- Support field outreach staff in data collection, including, but not limited to, surveys, focus groups, interviews, drug sample collection, and urgent responses.
- Support coordination with partner organizations.
- Support surveillance drug checking and urgent response efforts.
- Maintain relationships community-based organizations and community members.
- Support the coordination and distribution of harm reduction resources.
- Manage field data collection operations.
- Support the coordination and distribution of harm reduction resources as part of field work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in health or social science or Associate’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience or high school diploma with commensurate experience in harm reduction.
Skills/Experience
- Knowledge of substance use terminology and harm reduction.
- Experience engaging with people who use drugs and people who are unhoused, preferably in Philadelphia.
- Experience with RedCAP or other survey software, preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team, prioritize and handle multiple tasks, as well as work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons and partner organizations.
- Sensitivity to and experience working with racially, ethnically, culturally, and sexually diverse individuals, communities, agencies and organizations.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license, preferred.
Work Environment: Field-based with a touch down office space.
Position Type and Work Schedule: Full time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. May be designated as essential staff to work non-traditional hours during public health emergencies. This is a grant-funded position; thus, continuation of the position depends on the continued availability of funds.
Travel: Local travel to multiple sites and community meetings, daily.
Physical Demands: Ability to transport materials, routinely moves equipment or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000
