The Special Projects Coordinator (Program Specialist IV) reports to the Director of Governmental Relations and Special Projects in the Regulatory Services Division (RSD), Operations Support. This position performs highly complex consultative, technical assistance, planning, and project work. This position will coordinate multiple important projects including providing staff support to the Texas Medical Disclosure Panel (TMDP), tracking audits and audit findings for RSD, and providing project management support to the Data and Systems Management Unit.

The selected candidate will join a part of a team of highly-skilled, capable, and motivated individuals. Must be able to work under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, and complete other duties as assigned.

This position can telework full time from any location in Texas consistent with HHS telework policies. If the selected candidate resides outside of the Austin commuting area, they will be required to travel to Austin four times annually to support TMDP meetings in-person.


Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.

(30%) Serves as administrative support liaison to the Texas Medical Disclosure Panel (TMDP), which meets four times annually, in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. Works closely with TMDP Chair and Vice-Chair, Advisory Committee Coordination Office, and program attorney to prepare for and facilitate all TMDP meetings. Schedules meetings; develops and maintains documentation including meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up items; and works with program attorney to update medical disclosure forms and relevant Texas Administrative Code rules. Monitors the TMDP email inbox, voicemail and physical mailbox/fax line and coordinates responses to inquiries. Attends TMDP meetings in Austin to assist with meeting facilitation.

(15%) Coordinates audit tracking and monitoring for the division. Maintains the status of open recommendations or findings in the audit tracker. Monitors the status of current and pending audits affecting RSD programs. Prepares monthly report to Deputy Executive Commissioner. Manages routing of audit-related documents for approval.

(40%) Monitors, manages, and supports (as needed) the progress of important initiatives and projects, including those generated by the Data and Systems Management Unit, and advises management and staff regarding implementation progress, issues, and completion. Works with project leads to develop solutions to programmatic challenges.

(15%) Other duties as assigned, including serving as back-up for the routing and tracking of legislative and media inquiries, support of disaster operations, and providing logistical support to division operations.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:


Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, plus two years of experience in project management or similar work requiring strong organizational skills. Relevant experience may substitute for degree. Experience with Health and Human Services or other Texas government programs.

Position is full-time telework from anywhere in Texas.
