BC Cancer – Prince George is seeking a locum Radiation Oncologist to join our team to provide clinical and academic services to cover temporary absences this summer and fall. Start and end dates are flexible.

BC Cancer – Prince George is seeking a Radiation Oncologist to join our team to provide clinical and academic services.

BC Cancer - Prince George is a full service cancer centre that provides service to approximately 1100 new patients per year. On site assets include CT simulation, two linear accelerators with cone beam CT, Intensity Modulation, VMAT, SABR, FSRT and a vaginal vault brachytherapy program. The centre has collaborative and innovative nursing, physics, dosimetry and radiation therapy staff. The centre provides medical oncology, diagnostic (in partnership with Northern Health Authority) and support services.

BC Cancer-Prince George Radiation Oncology is committed to excellence in clinical care and focused on developing academic excellence in a provincial cancer care environment. BC Cancer’s population-based model and resultant databases provide outstanding opportunities for outcome-based research. The Centre for the North participates actively in several clinical trials groups and leads international trials. The successful applicant will be part of a collaborative care team committed to excellence, to participate in clinical, research, administrative and educational activities. Participation within the provincial tumour groups is encouraged. They will have a clinical appointment at UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Radiation Oncology, and will have privileges through both the Provincial Health Services Authority, and our partner health authority at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia.

Prince George is located close to the centre of British Columbia and is a short 1 hour flight away from Vancouver and Victoria, or Edmonton and Calgary in the neighbouring province of Alberta. Considered the “Gateway to Northern B.C.,” Prince George is the closest major urban centre for smaller northern towns and remote towns, and is the region’s centre for healthcare. It offers low cost of living, top notch education facilities and ample opportunities for recreation ranging from mountain biking to fishing, skiing to speed skating.

The successful applicant must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia, must have obtained a Fellowship in Radiation Oncology from the RCPSC or hold an equivalent qualification by the time of appointment, and must meet the requirements for appointment to medical staff of BC Cancer and University Hospital of British Columbia. Canadian Immigration regulations accord preference to Canadian citizens and landed immigrants.

Successful Candidates Will Have

Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).

Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
