What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Technologist position at HealthPartners?
This position is responsible for performance and reporting of clinical laboratory testing using a variety of automated, semi-automated and manual technologies. Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of test results, initial troubleshooting of problems, instrument maintenance and following safe laboratory practices.
Accountabilities/Duties:
- Collect lab specimens and evaluates their acceptability.
- Completes necessary laboratory documentation.
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the laboratory general supervisor or director.
- Utilize technical background knowledge of laboratory medicine across all areas of the laboratory. These include Immunohematology, Chemistry, TDM, Hematology, Coagulation, Serology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Phlebotomy.
- Observes all safety and compliance requirements.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related field.
- Current certification as Medical Technologist (MT/CLS/MLS) or equivalent by a national board of registry ASCP.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum one year hospital laboratory experience preferred.
