We are seeking a part-time phlebotomist to join our team in Orange County Area. This role is perfect for an experienced and reliable professional looking for a flexible schedule.
Position Details:
- Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM (hours could also be from 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM depending on volume)
- Location: Orange County Area
- Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws efficiently and professionally
- Properly label and prepare specimens for transport
- Drive samples back to Irvine office.
Requirements:
- Reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided at IRS rates)
- Valid phlebotomy certification and prior experience
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism
POSITION OVERVIEW (REGULATIONS)
- Each individual performing high-moderate complexity testing must possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
- A Phlebotomy Technician I shall perform skin punctures and venipuncture blood collection only when he or she:
- Maintains a current, valid certification with the department as a Phlebotomy Technician.
- Performs skin punctures and venipuncture blood collection under the supervision of a licensed physician, licensed physician assistant, registered nurse, licensed clinical laboratory scientist or a designee. A designee shall be licensed or certified under the Business and Professions Code-Article 3 and shall be delegated by the laboratory director to oversee the skin punctures and other duties related to blood collection performed by the Phlebotomy Technician.
- Is shown to be competent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture blood collection after employment without direct and constant supervision, before being allowed to perform these tasks on patients. Documentation of competency shall be done at least annually.
- Has completed at least three hours per year, or six hours every two years, of continuing education in phlebotomy related courses from a provider of continuing education approved pursuant to Article 3.0.
- A Phlebotomy Technician II shall perform skin puncture, venipuncture and arterial puncture blood collection only when he or she:
- Maintains a current, valid certification with the department as a Phlebotomy Technician II.
- Performs skin punctures, venipuncture blood collection and limited to performing arterial punctures only, under the supervision of a licensed physician, licensed physician assistant, registered nurse, licensed clinical laboratory scientist or a designee. A designee shall be licensed or certified under the Business and Professions Code-Article 3 and shall be delegated by the laboratory director to oversee the skin punctures and other duties related to blood collection performed by the Phlebotomy Technician.

DUTIES
- Verify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log, bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
- Verify patient by reading patient identification.
- Obtain blood specimens by performing venipuncture blood collection.
- Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures.
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
- Maintain quality of work by following department procedures and testing schedule; promptly report any issues or delays to dispatch team.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Ensure all specimens are properly labeled, packaged, and placed in designated coolers for mobile transportation. Adhere to strict handling procedures to transport specimens safely and promptly from facilities to the laboratory via company vehicle.
- Adhere to delivery schedules and routes via company cellphone. Maintain accurate documentation while operating a company vehicle in accordance with all traffic regulations and company policies.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, HIPAA, State, COLA and CLIA.
- Provide leadership and support for the Compliance process within management area.
- Report concerns suspected incidences of non-compliance with the laboratory management team.
- Provide open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management areas and ensure that retaliation against staff who report suspected incidences of non-compliance does not occur.
- Participate in required orientation, Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA training programs.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Exercises accuracy and precision in completion of prescribed tasks.
- Ability to perform complex lab tasks and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Critical analysis and complex problem solving.
- At least one year of experience is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent.
LICENSURE/CERTIFCATION
- California Phlebotomy Technician Certification – CPT I or CPT II
- American Heart Association BLS
- American Society of Clinical Pathologists Phlebotomy Certification PBT (ASCP)
- Valid Driver’s License
