FINANCE ASSISTANT
The Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in various aspects of the Finance Department, with a primary focus on accounts receivable, rating and reporting, and cash application. This position also serves as a generalist, providing varying levels of backup and support across the department depending on the time of year. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when collaborating with the Finance Team and other departments to resolve issues.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assists the staff accountant in the monthly Retiree Account Reconciliation process. Maintains detailed records of accounts, noting the timing of events, circumstances, communications, and corresponding elapsed periods used for account reconciliation.
2. Provide assistance in the monthly audit of retiree billing. Practices a high level of diligence and internal communication to ensure billing is accurate and corrections are resolved timely. Position will assist in compiling the monthly collection letters and calculate amounts due for refunds and benefit changes.
3. Completes year end Retiree statements and works collaboratively to resolve enrollee cases in the Enrollment and Billing System. Individual will proactively notate case notations to provide sufficient detail to support contact center explanations.
4. Responsible for Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), COBRA and Member Group Accounts Receivable Collections. Proactively and independently acts to resolve payment discrepancies through group and internal communication.
5. Assists in the review and proofing of Member renewals, preparation of rates, and associated renewal documents for all coverage lines offered by HealthTrust. Also verifies accuracy of change forms and data in the enrollment and billing system to ensure the proper billing. During renewal time, these duties become a primary function.
6. Sorts and batches incoming payments. Enters daily cash receipts into appropriate AR account, giving specific attention to provided remittance and applying payments accordingly. Individual demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and practices strict adherence to cash controls through verification and matching of totals.
7. Maintains and regularly updates procedure manuals related to the activities performed by the Finance Assistant.
8. Provides assistance and backup to Finance Department functions on a regular basis, as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma
- 3 years in bookkeeping, accounting, AP/AR, or similar office roles
- College level accounting courses or equivalent training preferred
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, financial software and data entry.
