Job Summary:
The Insurance Benefits Verification Specialist plays a crucial role in our practice by ensuring accurate insurance coverage for patients. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of insurance policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions:
- Verifying patient benefits details and daily patient eligibility prior to patient appointments.
- Updating patient demographics and insurance information.
- Updating patient records with insurance verification information and insurance ID cards.
- Answering patient questions regarding insurance coverage as needed.
- Maintaining an excellent understanding of medical terminology, billing codes, and coding systems (ICD-10, Modifiers, CPT).
- Providing excellent customer service skills, fostering good relations with team members, and effectively communicating with all levels of staff.
- Navigating insurance verification websites such as Availity, Navinet, and others to verify patient benefits.
- Insurance Plan knowledge including Medicare and Medicaid.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in office administration or related field preferred.
- At least three years of healthcare insurance verification and billing experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
