We're looking for a passionate Supervising EMS Physician to partner with the Salem Fire Department as they embark on a bold new chapter—bringing emergency medical transport in-house for the very first time in decades.

What You’ll Do
As the Supervising Physician, you'll be the medical compass for a highly trained team of paramedics and EMTs. You’ll ensure the highest level of patient care through hands-on oversight, ongoing training, and visionary leadership.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, reviewing, and maintaining medical protocols and standing orders
- Overseeing quality improvement (QI) initiatives, case reviews, and skills evaluations
- Providing real-time support and guidance to Salem Fire EMS personnel
- Supporting EMS training efforts—including scenario-based education and continuing medical education (CME)
- Observing field performance (yes, that includes ride-alongs!)
- Authorizing controlled substance administration and medical supply use
- Advising on EMS-related community health programs and system development
- Working on-site with EMS leadership for a minimum of 50 hours per month
Required Qualifications
- Licensed MD or DO in good standing with the Oregon Medical Board
- Resident of or actively practicing in Marion or Polk County
- In practice by July 1, 2025
- Knowledge of Oregon EMS laws and EMT scope of practice
- Eligible to complete (or already completed):
- 48 months as EMS Medical Director
- NAEMSP EMS Medical Director Course
- ACGME EMS Fellowship
- EMS Subspecialty Board Certification
- Willing to meet ongoing EMS education standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or recent experience as an EMS Medical Director, preferably with a municipal fire department
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Passion for EMS system design, training, and community impact
